Celsius to Fahrenheit Converter

Convert °C to °F instantly — weather, cooking, and fever checks.

Type a temperature in Celsius and get the exact Fahrenheit equivalent instantly. The converter applies the proper offset formula — °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 — since temperature scales don't share a zero point.

How it's calculated

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Temperature scales have different zero points, so unlike length or weight there is no single multiply-by factor — the +32 offset is essential.

How the Celsius-to-Fahrenheit conversion works

Temperature conversion is trickier than length or weight because the two scales start at different zero points: 0 °C (water's freezing point) is 32 °F, not 0 °F. So you can't just multiply by a factor — you must scale by 9/5 and then add the 32-degree offset: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32.

The 9/5 ratio comes from the size of the degrees: between water's freezing and boiling points there are 100 Celsius degrees but 180 Fahrenheit degrees, and 180 ÷ 100 = 9/5. The converter applies the full formula every time, so results like 37 °C → 98.6 °F come out exact.

Common Celsius to Fahrenheit reference points

Weather anchors: 0 °C is 32 °F (freezing), 10 °C is 50 °F, 20 °C is 68 °F (room temperature), 25 °C is 77 °F, 30 °C is 86 °F, and 40 °C is 104 °F (heatwave).

Body and kitchen anchors: 36.5–37.5 °C is 97.7–99.5 °F (normal body temperature), 38 °C is 100.4 °F (fever threshold), 100 °C is 212 °F (boiling), and a 180 °C oven is 356 °F while 200 °C is 392 °F.

Where you'll use Celsius to Fahrenheit

Travelers checking weather forecasts cross this line daily — a forecast of 28 °C means packing for 82 °F weather. Cooks following recipes from another country need oven temperatures converted before preheating, and a 10-degree error ruins baking.

Health is the most sensitive use: thermometers in most countries read Celsius, but US medical guidance is written in Fahrenheit. Knowing that 38 °C is 100.4 °F — the standard fever threshold — matters when deciding whether to call a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

What is 20°C in Fahrenheit?

20 °C is 68 °F (20 × 9/5 + 32 = 68). Enter 20 in the converter above to verify.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head?

Double the Celsius, subtract 10% of that, then add 32. For 20 °C: 40 − 4 + 32 = 68 °F. It's exact for multiples of 5 and close enough otherwise.

Why can't I just multiply by a factor like with kg to lb?

Because the scales have different zero points: 0 °C equals 32 °F, not 0 °F. A pure multiplication would map 0 °C to 0 °F, which is wrong by 32 degrees. The +32 offset fixes the zero-point mismatch.

What is normal body temperature in Fahrenheit?

37 °C converts to 98.6 °F. The commonly cited normal range of 36.5–37.5 °C is 97.7–99.5 °F.
